Dear Brothers and Sisters,
We are praising God for our VBS. The COVID pandemic did reduce the number of children joining us but our faithful team is doing a great job teaching the truth. Children are eager to learn and having fun. I laughed so hard last night as I watched the children navigate an obstacle course!!! Keep praying since today is HUMP-DAY.
I was reading in the Daily Bread today from John 8:31-32
NIV John 8:31-32
To the Jews who had believed him,
Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.
Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
We begin our journey as followers of Jesus Christ by believing on Him. This decision to believe is a miracle which God does in us. Our response to His invitation is necessary. It is the very first step which will be a series of many steps during our lifetime. The Jews in verse 31 “had believed” Jesus. They decided to follow Him. This choice will have an eternal impact in their lives!
Jesus defines his true disciples as those who continuously hold, abide or remain in His teaching. This verb to remain is used in Jesus illustration of branches abiding in Him, the true vine in John 15:1-17. A branch abiding is a position essential to life. If a branch is separated from the Vine it will die. So, if I want to follow Jesus, I will eagerly abide in His Word. We abide in His word by hearing it, reading it, studying it, memorizing it and meditating on it. The word is food for our hungering souls and fresh water to refresh our spirits.
Therefore, we begin eternal life by a step of faith to believe Jesus then live the rest of our lives by listening to and obeying His Word. This is the sure path of freedom in Christ. Our understanding of truth increases and so does our genuine enjoyment of freedom in Christ. “Live Free or Die” is the state motto of New Hampshire. It is also a sound reminder for each of us as disciples of Jesus Christ.
I pray that these simple thoughts will instruct and inspire us to walk with Jesus today!
Until the next time, enjoy your journey of faith-walking with our Lord Jesus!
