Dear Brothers and Sisters!
What a beautiful day in Colorado! Sunny and warm just as it ought to be this time of the year. Isn’t it wonderful when days unfold as we expected? I hope your Mother’s Day celebration yesterday was just as you had planned it!
I am thinking today about the power of our words. We love to hear and offer encouraging words to others. Here are a few proverbs describing the value of our words:
NIV Proverbs 15:23 A person finds joy in giving an apt reply—and how good is a timely word!
A timely word is just the right word for the situation. It is the answer that someone needs to hear. Isn’t it a joy to offer the right word to the right person at just the right time? Such words come from a heart that is full of God’s truth and a mouth that is led by the Holy Spirit!
NIV Proverbs 12:25 Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up.
Anxiety often comes out of fear. Such fears do weigh us down! So, the solution of Solomon is a kind word. A kind word is a good word that gives comfort and speaks truth into an anxious heart. There is great benefit and advantage in a kind word!
NIV Proverbs 15:26 The LORD detests the thoughts of the wicked, but gracious words are pure in his sight.
Word full of grace are pure! It is God’s language of love and truth which promotes maturity in our lives. He loves to hear us speak grace into someone’s life. He delights to give us grace to share with others!
NIV Proverbs 16:21 The wise in heart are called discerning, and gracious words promote instruction.
Another reference to gracious words in our short list. As adults, we want to give instruction to those who are younger, especially our children and grandchildren. So let us pray for discernment and gracious words! When our children hear words like this—they will be well trained!
NIV Proverbs 16:24 Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.
One final reference to gracious words. This verse describes the sweetness of grace expressed in words. Grace does impact our souls and our bones! Let us speak gracefully and watch God do the healing!
As you survey this brief list, which one spoke to you today? How can you take this truth and share it with someone else? I have a dear brother who always shared with me truth he had discovered in reading God’s Word that day! It was a joy to listen and learn from him. I want to be a person who speaks good, kind, gracious words, don’t you?
Dear Spirit of God fill us today with Your truth so we will obey it and share it with others! We want to speak good “Jesus” words into other’s lives! Amen!
This Sunday during our worship services we will have a very special guest worship leader. His name is Ed and I ask you to pray for him and our Worship Team. When you come to church this week, expect to be blessed as you worship our LORD in singing, sharing, giving, and listening to truth from the Word of God!
