Dear Friends,
This month we are memorizing Paul’s prayer for the church at Colossae, which is found in Colossians 1:9-14.
Paul never met these disciples, but his prayer is very specific and glorious! This is an excellent example of intercessory prayer. His prayer opens with a very dynamic spiritual request.
Colossians 1:9 NIV
For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives,
Immediately we discover that Paul had only “heard” about this church. He was told about the church by Epaphras. This report drove Paul to his knees. We should pray for others whom we have not met too!
He shares with them that he prays continuously, not intermittently. He also says that others have joined him in this intercession. Every teammate can pray for others!
His ambition is that they would increase in their knowledge of God’s will. God has revealed His will in His word, so this is a prayer for instruction with precise application.
Therefore, he prays that the Holy Spirit will meet our need for wisdom and understanding!
Let’s commit ourselves to praying for others! Be specific and devoted to intercession. Watch for needs. Pray for others. Then keep watching as God answers our prayers!
Be encouraged,
Pastor Rick
