Why Do We Sing THESE Songs?

Scripture commands the church to sing “psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs” (Col. 3:16) together as one of our acts of worship. These different kinds of music reflect songs that come directly from Scripture (Psalms), as well as new songs written by the church that reflect the truth of God and the gospel as revealed in Scripture. Here we sing hymns that connect us to the generations of God’s people who have gone before us, we sing modern songs in an attempt to be faithful to God who calls us to “sing a new song,” and we sing new arrangements of classic hymns.

Any song we sing together must first pass the test of truth - is it theologically accurate and does it proclaim what is true about God? In this, we recognize that God can draw straight lines with crooked sticks. The songs we choose must also be singable in a group setting. Not every song you hear on the radio is that. But what is most important is that in singing together, we are proclaiming Christ’s excellencies as his people. Let us hear you sing!

MISSIONS MOMENT | Frank and Connie Porter

Please join us in the important work of praying for our FCC missionaries. These next two weeks we want to focus on Frank and Connie Porter in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, who serve with Child Evangelism Fellowship. Here are some ways you can be praying:

  • Praise God for the 8 teens who have committed to lead Adventure Clubs this summer as part of Christian Youth In Action (CYIA) teams!
  • Pray for strength, wisdom, and energy for these young people as they work together to lead 10-12 Clubs this summer
  • Pray for a coordinator for La Plata County to have ministry grow in Durango.
  • Pray as well for the children they will be reaching in the Adventure Clubs. May God draw them near to Himself through Jesus!

Thank for you remembering our missionaries in prayer this week.
