Today is often referred to as Silent Saturday during Holy Week. A time to pause and remember the moments of suspense between the death of Jesus and His resurrection. As we also wait in anticipation, let’s finish examining the work of the Holy Spirit in the life of Jesus on earth.  The resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ reveals the work of the Holy Spirit. 1 Peter 3:18 NIVFor Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit. Romans…

As we prepare to reflect on Jesus’ procession into Jerusalem at our Palm Sunday Service, we are blessed to observe the comfort of the Holy Spirit in the life, suffering, and death of Jesus. Hebrews 9:14 NIV How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!  We are also told that a Holy angel ministered to our Lord in the Garden of Gethsemane: Luke 22:39-44 NIV Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and…

Dear fellow worshippers, Tomorrow, March 22, we end our sermon series from Jesus’ teaching in John 13-16. For several weeks in our EncourageOGrams, we have also examined the work of the Holy Spirit in the life of Jesus on earth. As we conclude both explorations, we find one, final word: rejoice. In sacred scripture, we espy Jesus rejoicing in His Father and the Holy Spirit! Luke 10:21 NIV (emphasis added)At that time Jesus, full of JOY through the Holy Spirit, said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes,…

Dear Ones, What did the work of the Holy Spirit look like in the life of Jesus on earth? In scripture, we observe Jesus was led by the Holy Spirit throughout His journey.  John 8:29 NIV“The one who sent me is with me; he has not left me alone, for I always do what pleases him.” If our Lord himself followed the Spirit’s leading, shouldn’t we? Of course! We ought to desire to be led by the Holy Spirit. We want to display His fruit, just as Jesus did! Galatians 5:22-25 NIVBut the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy,…

Fellow Followers of Jesus, Today we continue to look closely at the work of the Holy Spirit in the life of Jesus on earth. Jesus was sealed by the Holy Spirit. John 6:27 NIVDo not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval. The seal on Jesus demonstrates He is truly the Savior sent from God the Father. The Father’s approval of Jesus inspires us to believe on Him and trust His teaching. Through His…

I have a question for you. What is filling your soul today? As a Church we are walking through Jesus’ teaching in John 13-16 and examining the work of the Holy Spirit in the life of Jesus on earth. From scripture, we know that our Lord Jeus was filled with the Holy Spirit. Luke 4:1 NIV Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness Jesus followed the leading of the Holy Spirit and was subsequently tested by the Devil. Too often we think the Spirit only leads us into blessed…

Our current sermon series (“Another Advocate”) is centered around Jesus’ teaching in John 13-16. Over the coming weeks, we will examine the work of the Holy Spirit in the life of Jesus on earth as a complimentary study. God, the Father, Son, and Spirit are all equally and fully divine. Yet we see in Jesus’ life on earth that He submitted to the guidance of both the Father and the Holy Spirit. Jesus’ conception itself was a miracle work of the Holy Spirit! Both Mary and Joseph are told this by an angel from heaven. To the virgin Mary: Luke…

Brothers & Sisters, As we continue pressing in to explore Jesus’ teaching in John 13-16, we are also examining the work of the Holy Spirit in the life of Jesus on earth.  We read in Matthew 3:16-17 about the unique baptism of Jesus and find that The Father and The Spirit were present and active. Matthew 3:16-17 NIVAs soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is…

Dear Friends, As we close our memory verses for this month let me celebrate with you. We are hiding God’s word in our hearts and God is pleased with us! 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 NIVMay our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word. Paul mentions two gifts: encouragement and hope. God gives these by His free grace; we cannot earn them or buy them. They are free and exceedingly valuable! God has, in Christ,…

Dear Friends, Today we meditate on just one verse in 2 Thessalonians 2:15. 2 Thessalonians 2:15 NIVSo then, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold fast to the teachings we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter. Paul uses twin metaphors to challenge us! We are to stand firm like a soldier on duty and to hold fast like a student in study. Both remind us we have no reason be lazy in this life while we await the return of our Lord Jesus. “Stand firm” is a verb found ten times in the New…
