WHY IS THERE A SERMON?
“Why do we have to listen to someone talk for so long? Why can’t we sing more?” The straight-forward answer is, “because we need to hear God’s Word preached.” You see, preaching is God’s ordained means of transformation (Romans 10:13-17). The preacher opens God’s Word and unfolds it for the people of God after his mind has been shaped by Scripture through his study. As we go verse by verse or chapter by chapter, hitting each book of the Bible in turn, the preacher lets God tell us what He wants us to hear week after week. In preaching, we see modeled how to understand, interpret, and apply Scripture. In preaching, we are reminded of the beautiful gospel that has saved us, and in preaching, we are exhorted to follow the Jesus we love; not merely given facts that are nice to know. Through the Word preached, God speaks to His people. Listening to the sermon - hearing the word - is an act of worship. As the song says, “Speak, O Lord, as we come to you, to receive the food of your holy word.”

MISSIONS MOMENT | Roberto & Kristin Macaluso
This week, we want to pray for Roberto and Kristin Macaluso. Roberto and Kristen minister with Youth for Christ in Sicily, Italy. Here's how you can be praying for them this week:
- Pray for the hundreds of young people who’ve been able to hear the Gospel in the last month. We are praying the opportunities we had turn into hearts transformed by the Gospel!
- Pray for rest and energy in order to be ready for an already busy January.
- We are beyond grateful for the way God has been providing for us and for the way He is doing it. Please pray that we may find the financial resources needed for the future.
