WHY DO WE SING THESE SONGS?

Scripture commands the church to sing “psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs” (Col. 3:16) together as one of our acts of worship. These different kinds of music reflect songs that come directly from Scripture (Psalms), as well as new songs written by the church that reflect the truth of God and the gospel as revealed in Scripture. Here we sing hymns that connect us to the generations of God’s people who have gone before us, we sing modern songs in an attempt to be faithful to God who calls us to “sing a new song,” & we sing new arrangements of classic hymns.

Any song we sing together must first pass the test of truth - is it theologically accurate and does it proclaim what is true about God? In this, we recognize that God can draw straight lines with crooked sticks. The songs we choose must also be singable in a group setting. Not every song you hear on the radio is that. But what is most important is that in singing together, we are proclaiming Christ’s excellencies as his people. Let us hear you sing!

ANNOUNCEMENTS

MISSIONS MOMENT | Paul & Kelly Stewart

This week, we want to pray for Paul & Kelly Stewart. Paul and Kelly minister with Wycliffe in Papua New Guinea. Paul is an aircraft mechanic and Kelly is a school administrator. Here's how you can be praying for them this week:

  • Pray for their daughter, Piper, who is now living in the USA. Pray for this transition for their family of having an adult child living across the world!
  • Pray for Paul as he works with training new staff and working through major transitions in the PNG Aviation department.
  • Praise that Kelly taught a theatre class and directed a play. She is having fun but ready to only be the vice principal again.
  • Praise for God's continued provision for all they need

Thank you for interceding on behalf of our missionaries!

Prayer Room | Sundays, 9a-10:15a | Prayer Room

The Lord has set in motion a desire to pray on Sunday mornings during first service. The Prayer Room door is open for anyone to engage in prayer and pursue the presence of God with others.

New ABF Series | May-June | Sundays, 9a | Rm. 2/3

Looking for a group to dig deep into the Bible with? Be a part of our Adult Bible Fellowship! A new series begins Sun., May 3, with Stephen Forcey leading us through the book of Zechariah, a book that contains the clearest and largest number of messianic prophecies among the Minor Prophets, both First and Second Comings. Zechariah is a key text in biblical prophecy. For more about the ABF, contact Tab Crane (tacrane@comcast.net).

Living Hope Garden—Sabbath | Sun., May 24 | Lobby

In 2026, the garden is on a Sabbath year, meaning we will not be growing the usual crops and instead giving the soil a rest. See Leviticus 25:2-7. However, on Sunday, May 24, we will be giving away tomato plants in between services!

Family Sunday | Sun., May 31, 9a & 10:30a | Sanctuary

It's a fifth Sunday next week and that means Family Worship! No children/youth programs or ABF. We’ll worship together as the family of God. Nursery will be available.

Pantry Express | Sun., Jun. 7 | Kitchen

Support those in need of a little extra help here in our community and bring non-perishable, non-expired food items on Jun. 7th. Today, pick up a shopping list at the Connection Center. Food items will only be collected on Jun. 7th.

RAINFOREST FALLS: Vacation Bible School | June 22-26, 5-7:30p

We are ready for an exploration trek at VBS! Mark your calendar - registration begins June 1. We'll need lots of teammates this year; would you pray about serving? Scout out opportunities on the sign up board in the lobby.

OCC May Collection

For Operation Christmas Child, we are bringing in NEW clothes in May. Imagine a child's delight to find shoes, flip-flops, socks, T-shirts, shorts, pants, underwear. Pick up a complete list at the Connection Center. Keep in mind the size of the shoe box when selecting your gift. Thank you for blessing a child with new clothes and the Good News!
