Give Us Hunger

Dear Ones,

Are you ever hungry? As humans, we all experience hunger. On days like Pi Day, we may be more aware of that craving in this earthly life. Let us look now at our soul’s hunger and where satisfaction can be found.

Psalm 16 begins with a joyful celebration of an intimate relationship with God! In 16:1, David calls out to God for protection. In 16:2, he echoes his trust in the Lord.

Psalm 16:2 NIV
I say to the LORD,
“You are my Lord;
apart from you I have no good thing.”

David confesses to the Great I AM, the LORD, that He alone is his personal Ruler or Despot. The One who reigns over all the universe is David’s King. He created the universe and by His word sustains it. (See Hebrews 1:1-3) His power is omnipotent and His grace is all-sufficient. Therefore, David has made a very wise choice!

His final comment in verse 16:2, is that the LORD has everything and is everything David will ever want or need. He is exclusively the object of David’s trust! All other wants or possessions seem worthless when they are compared to Him.

This reminds us of the confession of David’s worship leader, Asaph, in Psalm 73:25.

Psalm 73:25 NIV
Whom have I in heaven but you?
And earth has nothing I desire besides you.

Whether we are in heaven or on earth, the sole object of our faith and love is God! May God give us hunger that is only and always satisfied in Him.

Matthew 5:6 NIV
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.

Be content in God today…and maybe celebrate His goodness with a slice of pie!

Your servant,

Pastor Rick
