Dear Ones,
In Psalm 16:5-6, we discovered that David celebrates his life. As he continues this prayer, he rejoices in the guidance he has received from the Lord.
Psalm 16:7 NIV
I will praise the LORD, who counsels me;
even at night my heart instructs me.
David bows his knees in worship of the LORD who gives his wise advice! Where do we find wisdom? We find it in God’s word! He is generous in giving wisdom and guidance!
Jesus is called the Wonderful Counselor in Isaiah 9:6.
David goes on to explain that this counsel can come at any time, even in the darkness of night! The verb “instructs me” is often used of the parenting process of training a child. There are times when this instruction is expressed in discipline. In other incidents, it is simple words of instruction.
Psalm 16:8 NIV
I keep my eyes always on the LORD.
With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
Now that David has worshiped God for His guidance, he affirms his focus on the LORD! He continuously looks to the Lord. And the Lord is always at David’s right hand. As a result, David celebrates stability in his emotions and decisions.
As we reflect on David’s delight in God’s guidance, where do we go for counsel? Have we caught ourselves trying to figure all this out without consulting the Lord? Perhaps we did pray and seek God but the circumstances got worse. Remember: the end of the story has not yet been told. God very well may have blessing in your future, so keep trusting in Him.
Let us keep our eyes on the Lord and our Bibles open as we make daily decisions.
Be Encouraged,
Pastor Rick
