Dear friends,
Today, we begin a look into the prayer Paul is praying for the church in Philippi. This prayer was written many years ago, but God can use it to transform our prayers for others today in 2025. Here is the Apostle Paul’s prayer:
Philippians 1:9-11 NIV
And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ– to the glory and praise of God.
Paul’s primary request is that they will know God’s love. Knowledge both personal and corporate. Paul is certain that God loves them and asks God to reveal new depths of His love for them. If we really believe God loves us, it will transform our lives! Paul desires an increase in their intelligent comprehension of God’s love.
Paul already modeled his love for them, now he prays that they will express God’s love to one another! This is a fulfillment of Jesus’ command in John 13:33-35.
John 13:33-35 NIV
“My children, I will be with you only a little longer. You will look for me, and just as I told the Jews, so I tell you now: Where I am going, you cannot come. “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
Let us love one another as Jesus’ loves us!
