Qualities

Dear friends,

In our text today, Colossians 1:10-12, Paul outlines four qualities that demonstrate a life that pleases the Lord.

Colossians 1:10b-12 NIV
so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.

The first quality is a fruitful life! As we abide in Christ, He produces fruit in our lives (John 15:8,16). This fruit of the Spirit is evidence of His power in our lives (Galatians 5:22-26).

The second quality is a thoughtful life. Paul seeks God to expand intimate knowledge in their lives. Satan is always attacking our minds, so we need to pray for spiritual intelligence (2 Corinthians 10:4-5).

The third quality is a powerful life. In verse 11, Paul asks God to display some of His omnipotence in their lives! The result of this empowerment is the ability to continue in faith or “endurance.” We all need prayer to endure through the storms of life!

Finally, Paul seeks the quality of thankfulness! This is a fitting prayer. Thanksgiving should be a regular ingredient in our lives as we walk with the Lord.

As you review these qualities, you may want to add them to your prayers for others. As we pray like this, we will see God answering and we will rejoice!

Be encouraged,

Pastor Rick
