Simple Pattern

Dear Friends,

Let’s begin inspecting the specific requests in Paul’s prayer in Ephesians 1:17-21.

Ephesians 1:17 NIV
I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.

Once again, Paul communicates his eagerness to pray for them. “I keep asking” is the mark of a true intercessor. Do people feel comfortable asking you to pray for them? Can you be trusted to faithfully pray?

Paul carefully constructed his prayer to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. The simple pattern for prayer is: TO the Father, THROUGH the Son (Jesus), BY the Holy Spirit sent to indwell us from heaven.

The premiere request is that they may KNOW God! Not intellectual knowledge, but intimate knowledge. The kind of knowledge that transforms our words, our actions, our minds, our souls, our hearts, our wills, our ENTIRE lives. This knowledge is given by the glorious Father, taught by the Holy Spirit of all wisdom, and culminates in a growing relationship with God.

Now, we can pray this prayer for everyone we know. We can pray for those who do not yet know God. We should pray it for everyone who is experiencing a living relationship with God!

Be encouraged as you pray for others,

Pastor Rick
