Dear Ones,
David continues to celebrate joy in his relationship with other believers by stating the heartache he feels toward all who reject the Lord. He is distressed to observe a lack of trust in the Lord. He is overwhelmed by their choice to follow anti-Christs. He is not expressing hatred but deep, personal sorrow!
Psalm 16:4 NIV
Those who run after other gods will suffer more and more.
I will not pour out libations of blood to such gods
or take up their names on my lips.
David has seen idol worshippers busy at the task of exalting unreal “gods.” His eyes are sharp and his heart is deeply concerned for them. The Puritan theologian, Matthew Henry, said it well: “All who multiply gods, multiply trouble.” My mind is immediately drawn to the story of the golden calf in Exodus 32. That idol brought great pain and suffering to the children of Israel.
So, David declares that he will not participate in their idol worship. He refuses to make any sacrifices and will not even speak the name of these false gods!
What idols do you see? Are you prepared to avoid them? Ask God to give you strength and determination to separate yourself from all idols.
Be steadfast,
Pastor Rick
