An Investigation on the Fruit of the Spirit

EncourageOGram

This ministry season we are exploring the Holy Spirit’s work of transformation in each follower of Jesus Christ. Our theme verse is found in 2 Corinthians 3:18

2 Corinthians 3:18 NIV
And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

This glorious transformation is ongoing and progressive. Progress is only made by God transforming us from the inside to the outside. It reflects the character of God, His glory! It can be measured by the evidence of the fruit of the Spirit found in Galatians 5:22-23.

The fruit of the Spirit come as a stark contrast to the works of the flesh or sinful nature.

The list of sinful works begins with sexually immoral acts, then religious acts, and concludes with social acts.

Galatians 5:19-21 NIV
The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

The conclusion is a stern warning that those who practice such sins will not inherit the kingdom of God!

Before we begin to investigate the virtuous fruit of the Spirit, take a moment to read and reflect on these acts of the flesh. Ask God for forgiveness! He does forgive such sinful practices and gives us power to overcome temptations. Ask God to inspire you to forsake such sins and to seek Him for the development of the fruit of Spirit in your life.

Your servant,

Pastor Rick
