WHY IS THERE A SERMON?

“Why do we have to listen to someone talk for so long? Why can’t we sing more?” The straight-forward answer is, “because we need to hear God’s Word preached.” You see, preaching is God’s ordained means of transformation (Romans 10:13-17). The preacher opens God’s Word and unfolds it for the people of God after his mind has been shaped by Scripture through his study. As we go verse by verse or chapter by chapter, hitting each book of the Bible in turn, the preacher lets God tell us what He wants us to hear week after week. In preaching, we see modeled how to understand, interpret, and apply Scripture. In preaching, we are reminded of the beautiful gospel that has saved us, and in preaching, we are exhorted to follow the Jesus we love; not merely given facts that are nice to know. Through the Word preached, God speaks to His people. Listening to the sermon - hearing the word - is an act of worship. As the song says, “Speak, O Lord, as we come to you, to receive the food of your holy word.”

ANNOUNCEMENTS

MISSIONS MOMENT | Scott & Mary Peterson

You are invited to pray for our FCC missionaries. These next two weeks we want to remember Scott & Mary Peterson who serve among refugees here in the Denver area. Here is how you can be praying for them this week:

  • Praise for Mary’s recent trip to Southeast Asia providing crisis debrief training, especially for those experiencing governmental pressure and opposition to the Christian message
  • Praise for meal kits distributed to struggling refugee families in Denver area
  • Pray that they will be lights for the gospel to internationals and immigrants
  • Pray for open doors among Asian refugees in Thornton
  • Pray for wisdom for Mary as she helps launch a new effort to strengthen student movements in key countries. Ask God to raise up vibrant, self- sustaining student ministries that multiply leaders.

Thank you for interceding on behalf of our missionaries!

Prayer Room | Sundays, 9a-10:15a | Prayer Room

The Lord has set in motion a desire to pray on Sunday mornings during first service. The Prayer Room door is open for anyone to engage in prayer and pursue the presence of God with others.

Partner in Gospel Work - Prayer Walk with Us!

As the weather continues to warm up, let’s take advantage of the season to pray over our neighborhoods, schools, places of work, and more! Grab a prayer walking guide at the connection center or online at fcchurch.org/prayerwalk and let’s ask God to move in mighty ways in our city.

Elder Prayer

One of the joyful callings of our elders is to pray for the partners of Fellowship. If you need prayer and want the elders to pray with you (James 5:14), please let us know. Call the church office at 303.699.1110 or e-mail elders@fcchurch.org and we will be happy to set a time with you!

New ABF Series | May-June | Sundays, 9a | Rm. 2/3

Looking for a group to dig deep into the Bible with? Be a part of our Adult Bible Fellowship! A new series begins Sun., May 3, with Stephen Forcey leading us through the book of Zechariah, a book that contains the clearest and largest number of messianic prophecies among the Minor Prophets, both First and Second Comings. Zechariah is a key text in biblical prophecy. For more about the ABF, contact Tab Crane (tacrane@comcast.net).

Senior Banquet | Sat., May 9

We will be celebrating with our graduating seniors on May 9th. As a gift for them, please consider writing a note of encouragement or blessing. Cards & boxes are in the lobby until May 10th.

Graduating in 2026?

If you or someone in your family is graduating this May, please let us know! We would love to celebrate with and pray for you. Contact Pastor Jeff (jhoward@fcchurch.org).
