First Priority

Fellow Faith Walkers,

We continue our observations from Psalm 23:3 today.  Again, I will rely on the insights from Philip Keller’s book, “A Shepherd Looks at the Twenty-third Psalm.” Philip Keller lists several fresh attitudes we need to maintain as we follow our Good Shepherd. He writes, “These are the equivalent of progressive forward movements onto new ground with God. If one follows them, they will discover fresh pasturage; new, abundant life; and increased health, wholesomeness and holiness in their walk with God.”

2.“Instead of being one of the crowd, I am willing to be singled out, set apart from the gang.”

This attitude has a profound effect on each of us! We can rest in the confidence that we are following our Shepherd no matter what happens. We all want good relationships with others, but we must choose to make Jesus our first priority in all decisions and actions. Jesus was a man of sorrows. We, like Him, often find ourselves lamenting the sin and sorrow we see on this earth. As we follow Jesus, may He give us strength to endure the criticism and cynicism we may incur from this world.

    Matthew 5:10-12 NIV
[10] Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. [11] “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. [12] Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Where will you take a stand today? It may be at work or your home! Be courageous and rely on the wisdom and strength that comes from our Good Shepherd.

    Be encouraged,

    Pastor Rick John
