Lasting Freedom, Lasting Joy

Dear brothers and sisters,

Today we revisit the opening strophe (/ˈstrōfē/ noun: a structural division of a poem containing stanzas of varying line-length) of Psalm 2.

Psalm 2:2-3 NIV
The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together against the LORD and against his anointed, saying, “Let us break their chains and throw off their shackles.”

P.T. Forsythe, a British preacher, once said, “The first duty of every soul is to find not its freedom but its Master.” This truth is well illustrated in Psalm 2. When you find your true Master, you will discover true and lasting freedom. The devil is a cruel master. He promises freedom but only gives slavery. Likewise, our own self is never satisfied and continuously seeks hedonistic dreams that go unfulfilled. But our Lord Jesus is kind and merciful. His will for us is always good.

The psalmist reminds us to not take this dead-end path. Stand with the Lord and his Anointed Savior Jesus and you will find lasting joy and freedom.

1 John 5:1-4 NIV
Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well. This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.

Keep in step with the Holy Spirit by abiding in His Word!
