LOVE: The Umbrella Fruit

EncourageOGram

We are focusing on love this month as one of the fruit of the Spirit. Some say love is the umbrella fruit, and all the others flow out of love.

Paul discusses the exercise of gifts in the church throughout 1 Corinthians 12. Then he writes the “love” chapter! Please note, demonstrating love is the most excellent way to use your gifts to serve others.

1 Corinthians 12:31-13:3 NIV
Now eagerly desire the greater gifts. And yet I will show you the most excellent way.
If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

This short list of examples reminds us that our motive in using spiritual gifts is vital!  Everything we do should be done with the motive of love for the benefit of others!

Let’s ask God to create in us love like this that serves others well. Ask God to open your eyes and heart to the needy around you.

Be Encouraged,

Pastor Rick
