Dear Friends,

As we are memorizing Psalm 46, I pray we are reflecting on the God who is revealed in this song! He is the great protector of His people and His city, Jerusalem. These praises seem to fit with the miraculous deliverance of Jerusalem as it is recorded in 2 Kings 18-20.

In the refrain of this song, we discover two more names for God.

Psalm 46:7 NIV
The LORD Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.

“The LORD Almighty” is a profound name for our God. These names occur together eight times in the Psalms. Lord almighty is a title which focuses on the Sovereign reign of God. He is Almighty who directs the angelic armies of heaven. The KJV translates this as “LORD of Hosts.”  God directs his holy angels to serve His people!

Hebrews 1:14 NIV
Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?

The second title used for the Lord is “the God of Jacob.” Jacob was God’s chosen one who faced many trials, but God delivered him from them. He became the father of the 12 tribes of Israel. The God of Jacob is strong and victorious!

Psalm 20:1 NIV A psalm of David.
May the LORD answer you when you are in distress;
may the name of the God of Jacob protect you.

Psalm 76:6 NIV
At your rebuke, God of Jacob,
both horse and chariot lie still.

Call upon the Most High today! Take confidence in the God of Jacob who fights for you!

Be encouraged,

Pastor Rick
