WHY DO WE TAKE COMMUNION?

Communion, “The Lord’s Supper,” is a tradition given to the church by Jesus Christ which calls us to remember his death on the cross until he returns again. It is a unique and beautiful way of preaching the gospel through symbols - the broken bread symbolizes his body, the cup symbolizes his shed blood - just as Jesus described it at the Last Supper. Reserved for believers and intended to be done regularly until Christ returns, we take Communion on the first Sunday of each month and on other special occasions. In doing so, we preach the gospel to ourselves and to one another. All confessing believers in Jesus are invited to participate in the Lord’s Table with us, but God’s Word cautions us against taking Communion lightly. We are told to examine ourselves before we eat the bread and drink the cup - then we can celebrate our salvation in Christ with joy!

Passages to read:
Matthew 26:26-29, Luke 22:16-20, 1 Corinthians 11:17-34

  • Praise for the successful trip to India
  • Pray as they transition from full time to retired staff roles with ReachGlobal, starting July 1st, 2025, including the administrative and logistical details for the mission work and their personal lives
  • This spring, pray as they speak and present at missions conferences and churches
  • Pray for the Paris team, which continues to grow outreach contacts
  • Pray for pastors and more staff in international churches across Europe
  • Pray for the Prayer Retreat at the end of March

Thank you for remembering our missionaries and one another in prayer this week.
