WHY IS THERE A SERMON?

“Why do we have to listen to someone talk for so long? Why can’t we sing more?” The straight-forward answer is, “because we need to hear God’s Word preached.” You see, preaching is God’s ordained means of transformation (Romans 10:13-17). The preacher opens God’s Word and unfolds it for the people of God after his mind has been shaped by Scripture through his study. As we go verse by verse or chapter by chapter, hitting each book of the Bible in turn, the preacher lets God tell us what He wants us to hear week after week. In preaching, we see modeled how to understand, interpret, and apply Scripture. In preaching, we are reminded of the beautiful gospel that has saved us, and in preaching, we are exhorted to follow the Jesus we love; not merely given facts that are nice to know. Through the Word preached, God speaks to His people. Listening to the sermon - hearing the word - is an act of worship. As the song says, “Speak, O Lord, as we come to you, to receive the food of your holy word.”

MISSIONS MOMENT | Christian Paetsch

Join us in praying for our missionaries each week. Christian Paetsch is one of our missionaries serving as Director of TUMI Colorado which equips men and women with theological training. Here's how you can be praying for him:

  • Pray for our many programs: Seminary, Trauma Healing, Onesimus Workshop, Prison Ministry (DRDC, DWCF, FCI Englewood)
  • Pray for status change at DRDC as the process with prisons is very slow
  • Pray for our many board members and for perseverance and strength for Chaplain Kris and myself
  • Pray for funding to help go full-time in the ministry and for serving USA funds to come in
  • Pray for volunteers to help with publications, email announcements, social media, and office assistance.

Thank you for praying for our missionaries!

30 Days of Prayer for the Muslim World | Feb. 18—Mar. 20

We are calling our church to prayer for the Muslim world during the month of Ramadan as they engage in a month of fasting. Let’s pray for people to encounter Jesus & pray for radiant believers to share the Gospel to nearby Muslim people groups. Grab a guide (Kid versions available, too!) at the Connection Center or at fcchurch.org/30-Days-of-Prayer-for-the-Muslim-World.

Special Business Meeting | Sun., Mar. 8, 12p | Sanctuary

In November, the Elders presented revisions to our By-laws. Small edits were then made, due to congregational feedback. On Mar. 8, we will meet as a church for a final decision on the revisions and to vote on receiving John Granger to the Elder Board. Copies of the By-laws are online at fcchurch.org/specialbusinessmeeting. Contact David (dcarter@fcchurch.org / 303-928-7102).
